Smoke in enclosed indoor environments is an early indicator of fire incidents and indoor air quality degradation that may threaten occupant safety. Delayed smoke detection is often caused by the limitations of conventional alarm systems, which are relatively expensive and lack installation flexibility. This study aims to develop a low-cost indoor smoke detection system based on Arduino Uno using an MQ-2 sensor as an early warning mechanism. An experimental research method was employed, including hardware design, software development, and system testing. The MQ-2 sensor was used to detect smoke concentration and generate analog signals processed by the Arduino Uno. Warning outputs were represented by a buzzer and an LED, which were activated when the sensor value exceeded a predefined threshold. System testing was conducted under smoke-free and smoke-present conditions to evaluate system responsiveness. The results demonstrate that the proposed system can effectively detect smoke and provide real-time alerts. The developed system offers a simple design, low implementation cost, and potential applicability as an indoor safety solution.
